Conceptually, the house is intended as a series of horizontal elements in the landscape- a floating box cantilevering off the stone retaining walls, accompanied by a long lap pool.  

A wide pond with stepping stones at the entrance of the house creates a sense of welcoming and calmness before entering into the retreat space.
